Going Green has always been a part of Mescalero culture
When the Housing Director was greeted by members of the Mescalero Tribe, he immediately observed the need for additional affordable housing on the reservation. His vision was to create a community that reflects the values of the Mescalero Apache. The Mescalero Housing Department selected Atkin Olshin Schade Architects, known for their commitment to sustainable design. Together they competed for and were awarded a New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority Tax Credit award. The vision and perserverance of the Mescalero Apache Housing Authority are evident today in I-Sah'-Din'-Dii', which was featured in an article recently published in Indian Country Magazine. The reservation, located in the treed mountains just south of Ruidoso, communicates a direct connection to nature. From the earliest vision of sustainability through the technical direction set forth from the architect, Pavilion Construction was then entrusted to facilitate the build out of this development. Pavilion was honored to build the vision of our client. Unique characteristis of I-Sah'-Din'-Din' included existing site preservation, sustainable material selections, and cultural amenities designed into the home.
