Have You Heard the Buzz?

Paisano Green Community El Paso, Texas

Pavilion Construction Press Release 03.11.2011 – For immediate release

In February 2010, the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso (HACEP) held a national design competition, where the best design would be awarded the project. The reason for the competition was to aid in HACEP’s vision of constructing the “greenest” affordable housing development in the country.

The designer, Workshop8, was awarded the project after a captivating and innovative design. Pavilion Construction was later selected from a large pool of responding general contractors to lead in the completion of the Paisano Community.

Since groundbreaking in early December, the story has caught news headlines everywhere. Reporter Dan Purvis from KFOX14 says that it is the first of its kind in the country. The Paisano Community relies solely on renewable energy through solar thermal, PV panels, and a wind power generator.

No other public housing community in the United States matches the performance standards of the Paisano Senior Housing Community. With the energy generated solar panels alone, it is anticipated that neither the tenants nor HACEP will ever have to pay a substantial utility bill. The PV panels are projected to produce as much energy in a year as the tenants will consume.

Pavilion Construction is extremely proud to assist in the construction of such a monumental project. Pavilion’s knowledge and extensive background with LEED specific projects and green processes made them the ideal candidate to oversee the construction phases of the project. Pavilion is sure to bring HACEP’s vision to life

Paisano Facts:

The Paisano Senior Housing Community is Net Zero, LEED Platinum certified. The project is being built on a 4.2 acre site. It is located at 79905 East Paisano Drive, El Paso, Texas. The project will include the construction of five buildings, consisting of 73 residential living units, laundry facilities, and support facilities. The buildings will be connected by canopy wall alongside the west face of the property, providing protection from the sun and winds. The community center and office are located on Paisano Drive at the north end of the property. Most all of the units will be ADA compliant.
