The Paisano Model
Paisano Senior Community Hosts Fort Bliss, TX
Pavilion Construction Press Release 7.21.11 – For immediate release
New construction is occuring at an unrelenting pace at Fort Bliss. KFOXTV.com’s Morning News Anchor Bill Young was right when he commented about the rapid construction at the Fort by saying the color green is becoming just as common as the color yellow. Although he was referring to the wave of construction that is taking place in order to keep up with the rapid growth on the post, it seems another shade of “green” is becoming just as prevalent. With the number of projects yet to be constructed, the Army post is showing an increased interest in finding out more about “green” sustainable building practices, more specifically about LEED Platinum, Net-Zero projects like the Paisano Senior Community.
On June 29th, Gerald Cichon, CEO of The Housing Authority of the City of El Paso (HACEP) and Workshop8 Architect jv DeSousa hosted an onsite demonstration of the Paisano Senior Housing Community to the Fort Bliss Garrison Commander Group. The visit was accompanied by the Paisano Community design team, Ali Gidfar and Joseph Vigil (Workshop8), and a handful of Pavilion Construction team members. An introduction was in order and given by HACEP CEO, Gerald Cichon.
Following the introduction the Fort Bliss Garrison Commander group was given a slide show presentation and walkthrough of the Paisano construction site by Gerald Cichon and jv DeSousa. The presentation was held to inform the Garrison Commander Group more about the design techniques, benefits and procedures of LEED projects. They also demonstrated the use of various LEED building materials and practices behind the design and construction phases of the Paisano project and discussed the significance of HERS (Home Energy Rating system), the importance of off-site production panels, recycling all construction waste materials, panelized wall construction, installation of energy efficient building envelope systems, utilization of fly ash concrete mixes, use of Photo Voltaic panels, and the screening effect of the canopy wall, among many other waste reduction techniques. “Colonel Joseph A. Simonelli, Jr. seemed intensely engaged throughout day and was extremely interested in bringing LEED Platinum/Net-Zero projects in future Fort Bliss developments,” said Pavilion Construction Project Executive Wil Speeg.
The Paisano Senior Community is grabbing constant attention of local and national news. As the Paisano Senior Community continues to develop, it will serve as a timeless model for future developments that strive to reach similar goals.
